What is Diabetes?

Diabetes is one of the major causes of deaths around the world next to cancer and heart disease. It does not only affect those who are suffering from the disease but also their loved ones because dealing with this disease is not easy. Some cases of diabetes may be hereditary, however, we can always do our our best to avoid this health problem. If only people would be disciplined enough to eat healthy and avoid the foods that may cause this disease then many diabetes death cases can be avoided.
If you suspect that you may be suffering from diabetes, then it is necessary to change your diet already and have yourself checked by the doctor to get the right medical advise and to be given with the right medication to try to control the problem. This disease if not treated early may result to a life threatening condition.
Diabetes or diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease which is caused by an increased sugar level in the body. Insulin endures the cells in the body to take up glucose in the blood so it can be used as energy by the body. When a person becomes diabetic, the proper functioning of insulin is disturbed which results to high blood glucose level or commonly called as hyperglycemia where sugar remains in the blood. When we eat foods rich in carbohydrates, the more the level of sugar increases.
A person suffering from diabetes may not be aware at it's early stage because it's symptoms is similar to those with other health problems. However, there are some early signs that will help you determine if you are suffering from diabetes. These signs will be discussed thoroughly in my next post.
