Causes of Bronchitis

Bronchitis may not be as serious as pneumonia, but it is a health problem that we should also take seriously as repeated infections of the bronchi and the bronchioles may result to damage of these tubes. Once this happens, this health problem may become worse as it may advance to pneumonia or emphysema. A person may also become susceptible to more infections. Once this happens, the bronchial tubes may thicken and be distorted.

Bronchitis has different causes. One of which is smoking. It is the leading cause of chronic bronchitis as the substances that can be found in cigarette may cause irritation of the bronchial tubes.
Other causes of bronchitis can be pollutions in the environment as well as exposures to certain chemicals at work that causes chronic bronchitis. People who are exposed to dust at work as well as the coal miners and metal molders are very high candidates of this health problem. Some people who are exposed to second hand smoke are also candidates of chronic bronchitis.
